Job summary

MercyOne Genesis is seeking a Clinic Lab Technician to join our laboratory team in the Quad Cities area. The role includes collecting blood samples, performing a range of lab tests, and educating patients on specimen collection.

Applicants should have a high school diploma (GED) and healthcare coursework. Strong computer skills and team-oriented approach are essential as part of our mission to improve community health.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or other healthcare studies preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Responsibilities

• Proficient in procuring blood samples via venous and capillary techniques for patients from infant to geriatric.
• Uses the Laboratory Information System to activate, order, and report laboratory tests.
• Educates patients on proper specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum).
• Reviews provider orders and maintains accuracy in test ordering; may call offices to obtain orders.
• Processes specimens with correct handling, including centrifuging and proper temperature storage.
• Prepares specimens for transfer to reference laboratories and completes required transfer paperwork; coordinates STAT transport.
• Performs waived and moderately complex CLIA testing under supervision.
• Keeps accurate records such as temperature monitoring and quality control.
• Works as a team in a fast-paced environment upholding Genesis Health System's standards.

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Clinic Lab Technician.

• Proficient in the procurement of blood samples via venous and capillary techniques, from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
• Utilizes use of the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders from providers and to result laboratory tests.
• Educates patients in the proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool and sputum.
• Reviews orders from providers, maintaining accuracy in ordering tests; occasionally must call providers' offices to obtain orders.
• Processes specimens in the appropriate way, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability.
• Readies specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, including completing the required paperwork for transfer and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner, including calling a STAT courier and completing the necessary paperwork for the transfer.
• Performs both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serologiy areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT.
• Keeps accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing and daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.
• Works together as a team in a fast paced environment to care for our patients while demonstrating Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.

General Requirements

• Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or other healthcare studies preferred.

Education
