Job summary

MercyOne Genesis Clinic is seeking a Clinic Lab Technician to support hematology and serology workflows in a busy hospital setting. You will collect venous and capillary samples, operate the Laboratory Information System, and ensure specimen integrity from collection to transfer.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, basic healthcare coursework, strong computer skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative, patient-centered team.

Qualifications

• Must have basic computer skills and be able to learn lab software quickly.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with a patient-centered focus.
• Experience or coursework in healthcare is preferred.
• Proven accuracy in specimen handling and result documentation.

Responsibilities

• Procure blood samples via venous and capillary methods for patients of all ages.
• Utilize Laboratory Information System to activate, order, and report test results.
• Educate patients on specimen collection procedures when needed.
• Review provider orders for accuracy and completeness; contact providers if necessary.
• Prepare and process specimens, ensuring proper handling, temperature, and storage.
• Arrange transfer of specimens to reference labs and complete transfer paperwork.
• Perform waived and moderate CLIA testing under supervision.
• Maintain accurate records including QC, temperature logs, and maintenance.

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Clinic Lab Technician.

• Proficient in the procurement of blood samples via venous and capillary techniques, from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
• Utilizes use of the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders from providers and to result laboratory tests.
• Educates patients in the proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool and sputum.
• Reviews orders from providers, maintaining accuracy in ordering tests; occasionally must call providers' offices to obtain orders.
• Processes specimens in the appropriate way, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability.
• Readies specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, including completing the required paperwork for transfer and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner, including calling a STAT courier and completing the necessary paperwork for the transfer.
• Performs both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serologiy areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT.
• Keeps accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing and daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.
• Works together as a team in a fast paced environment to care for our patients while demonstrating Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.

Schedule

• M-F 11:30am-8pm. No weekends or holidays

General Requirements

• Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or other healthcare studies preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
• Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Additional course work up to 1 year in healthcare studies.
