Job summary

MercyOne Genesis Clinic Lab Technician position serving the Quad Cities region. You will procure blood samples, operate the Laboratory Information System, educate patients on specimen collection, and review orders for accuracy.

The role includes performing waived and moderately complex CLIA testing under supervision, maintaining records, and thriving in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment within MercyOne Health System.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or other healthcare studies preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Responsibilities

• Procure blood samples from patients across age range.
• Utilize the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders.
• Educate patients in proper specimen collection.
• Review orders from providers, maintaining accuracy and, when needed, contact providers to obtain orders.
• Process specimens including required requirements, centrifuging, separating, and proper storage.
• Prepare specimens for transfer to reference laboratories and ensure STAT transfers.
• Perform waived and moderately complex CLIA testing under supervision.
• Maintain temperature records, quality control, and routine maintenance.
• Work as part of a fast-paced team to deliver patient-centered care.

Schedule: Full Time 8:30am-5pm rotating weekends and holidays

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Clinic Lab Technician.

• Proficient in the procurement of blood samples via venous and capillary techniques, from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
• Utilizes use of the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders from providers and to result laboratory tests.
• Educates patients in the proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool and sputum.
• Reviews orders from providers, maintaining accuracy in ordering tests; occasionally must call providers' offices to obtain orders.
• Processes specimens in the appropriate way, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability.
• Readies specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, including completing the required paperwork for transfer and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner, including calling a STAT courier and completing the necessary paperwork for the transfer.
• Performs both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serologiy areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT.
• Keeps accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing and daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.
• Works together as a team in a fast paced environment to care for our patients while demonstrating Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.

General Requirements:

• Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or other healthcare studies preferred.
