Job Description - Clin Lab Technician - PRN (7462-9168)

Rutherford Regional Health System is a 143-bed acute care facility offering a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital is committed to providing compassionate, professional healthcare through the teamwork of our dedicated staff.

In partnership with Duke LifePoint Healthcare, Rutherford Regional aims to transform healthcare in Rutherford County. Duke LifePoint is a joint venture between Duke University Health System and LifePoint Health, combining clinical excellence with extensive healthcare resources.

Position Overview: Clinical Lab Techs perform diagnostic testing on patient samples to assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring diseases. Responsibilities include routine and complex testing across various laboratory sections such as Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, and Microbiology. The role involves patient testing, quality control, CAP surveys, policy development, and equipment maintenance.

Essential Functions:

  • Follow standardized procedures and prepare samples for testing.
  • Identify and correct errors promptly, reporting to the supervisor.
  • Conduct quality assurance activities, including equipment QC and maintenance documentation.
  • Participate in ongoing educational activities.
  • Perform specialized techniques under supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collect samples and analyze bodily fluids and blood for abnormalities.
  • Operate laboratory equipment effectively.
  • Analyze and report test results accurately and timely.
  • Perform automated and manual tests according to policies and procedures.
  • Assist in training MLT students.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; HEW technologist designation acceptable in lieu of BA Degree.
  • Completion of Medical Technology Program preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work under stress and take appropriate actions.

Certifications:

  • ASCP certification preferred.
  • 1-3 years laboratory experience strongly preferred.
