Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in San Diego, CA is seeking a climbing arborist trainee to join our on-site tree care team. You will learn to climb, prune, and remove trees while focusing on health and safety of trees and clients.

You’ll work with a crew, gain hands-on training in pruning, cabling, bracing, and equipment operation, and progress based on skill and safety certifications. Competitive pay ranges from $20 to $25 per hour, with full-time benefits and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights preferred.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving courses upon hire.
• Licenses/certificates related to pesticides if required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and be paid to do so.
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while learning new skills.
• Prune, remove deadwood, and perform pruning/removal safely and skillfully.
• Identify trees and follow industry pruning guidelines.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws and chippers.
• Progression depends on safety and performance.
