Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Columbus, OH is looking for a Climbing Arborist Crew Leader to guide a crew and manage arborist tasks outdoors, ensuring safe and efficient work. You’ll lead pruning, removals, and structural treatments while coordinating equipment and crew duties.

You’ll mentor crew members, operate chainsaws and lifts, and apply industry standards. Davey offers training and advancement opportunities in a safety-driven, employee-owned environment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to lead a crew outdoors and follow safety protocols.
• Completion of Davey Tree Orientation and First Aid/CPR upon hire.
• Preferred pesticide licenses and industry certifications.

Responsibilities

• Directs crew and equipment to plan and execute assigned tasks.
• Lead climbing operations using DdRT/MRS or SRT/SRS systems.
• Mentor crew members through career development program.
• Maintain and operate tools including chainsaws, chippers and lifts.
• Ensure safety practices and high-quality arboricultural care for clients.
• Install cables, bracing, lightning protection; prune and remove deadwood.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Climb Trees! Davey offers both DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS climbing systems.
• Safely and productively lead a crew in providing arboricultural care for our clients.
• Including but not limited to:
• Jobsite Hazards, Obstacles, Plan, Equipment (H.O.P.E) process
• Pruning, thinning and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems
• Removal of hazardous trees
• Mentor crew members through the Davey Career Development Program.
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking for:

• Love of the outdoors
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates
• Preferred: ISA Certified Arborist ®, ISA Certified Tree Worker ®, and/or TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional ®
