Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a climbing arborist to trim and remove trees, focusing on health and safety of trees and surrounding areas. You will climb with specialized systems and work on-site in Rochester, NY with a team of foremen and crew members.

Responsibilities include pruning, removing deadwood, installing cables and safety systems, and maintaining tools and equipment. Prior tree climbing experience and a valid driver’s license are required; CDL and certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license required (DOT medical card preferred).
• Minimum 1 year tree climbing experience required.
• CDL or ability to obtain upon hire preferred.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights preferred.
• Must complete Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Must complete Davey first aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Preferred: Pesticide, CDL and related licenses if state law requires.

• Climb trees and operate with Davey’s DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS systems.
• Work with ground crew and foreman as part of a crew.
• Prune, thin and remove deadwood from canopies.
• Install cables, bracing and lightning protection where needed.
• Remove hazardous trees and maintain equipment including chainsaws, chippers, lifts.

Position Overview

Trim and remove trees, remove unwanted, diseased or dying limbs on trees, or to affect the health and safety of trees or surrounding areas by performing the following duties.

Job Duties

• How high you grow depends on you!
• Climb Trees! Davey offers both DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS climbing systems.
• Operate as an active crew member with supporting ground crew and foreman.
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.
• Including but not limited to:
• Pruning, thinning and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems
• Removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors
• Required: Valid driver's license (preferred: valid DOT medical card)
• Required: Previous tree climbing experience (minimum 1 year)
• Preferred: Valid CDL or ability to acquire it upon hire
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey first aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide, DOT, CDL and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
