Job summary

The Barr Foundation in Boston seeks a Program Officer to advance its Climate Program across Clean Energy, Climate Resilience, and Mobility. You will work with grantees, partners, and staff to develop strategies, assess proposals, manage grants, and support field leadership.

Reporting to Senior Program Officer, Mobility, you will collaborate across teams on evaluation, communications, and learning while helping strengthen equity-centered climate work and Barr’s mission.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years in nonprofit, public, or private sector climate work.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with lived experience.
• Ability to listen to community challenges and support grantees.
• Ability to analyze complex conditions and understand policy dynamics.
• Proven ability to define program objectives and manage projects end-to-end.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis for evaluating initiatives.
• Experience communicating with diverse constituencies; facilitation a plus.
• Independent yet collaborative team player with proactive initiative.

Responsibilities

• Develop climate grantmaking strategies with the Climate team for Massachusetts.
• Assess proposals, conduct site visits, and support grant quality improvements.
• Manage active grants, track progress, and analyze financial reports.
• Coordinate consultants and special projects; support grantees throughout processes.
• Draft internal analyses for leadership and trustee review.
• Collaborate on evaluation, learning, and sharing learnings with partners.
• Support communications and shape public narratives on climate issues.
