Job summary

ICF’s Energy and Climate Planning Internship offers hands-on experience developing analytical models and policy analyses across energy sectors.

Based in Reston, VA or Arlington, VA, this 10-week program starts in early June 2027, with hybrid work options and opportunities to contribute to client engagements, market research, and thought leadership while building project management skills.

Qualifications

• By start date, 30 completed college credits in Energy, Policy, Climate, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Operations Research, Engineering, or related field.
• US Citizenship is required per Federal contracts.
• By start date, acceptance/enrollment verification, or at least 9 credit hours of completed graduate-level courses in Energy, Policy, Climate, Economics, Mathematics, Business, Operations Research, Engineering, or related field.
• A completed bachelor's degree.
• Strong interest in energy economics, energy finance, climate, greenhouse gas accounting, operations research, and energy policy analysis.
• The ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical personnel.
• Basic knowledge of R, Python and/or other coding languages.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Working knowledge of US energy markets, policies, and technology.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced quantitative and economic analysis of energy and environmental markets
• Contribute to the development and enhancement of ICF proprietary models and databases
• Evaluate the impact of future regulation and support the development of client strategies to manage change
• Write analysis for major corporate and government clients’ deliverables
• Support the development of research synthesis reports, industry benchmarking, quantitative analysis and policy summaries
• Contribute to business development and marketing efforts and thought leadership development through market research, data analysis and creation of marketing content
