Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior captive insurance professional to lead and coordinate all phases of engagements from discovery through delivery. You will manage client relationships at a senior level, prepare complex client deliverables, and guide teams across underwriting, actuarial, and service functions.

The role requires deep knowledge of captive insurance models and regulatory environments, with strong analytical and negotiation skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in insurance, risk management, or captive insurance.
  • Deep knowledge of captive insurance models, alternative risk financing mechanisms, regulatory environments, and risk management best practices.
  • Proven track record of managing complex client relationships at a senior level, with a consultative approach.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical mindset with data-driven underwriting and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM platforms, and insurance management/data analytics tools.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all phases of captive insurance engagements, ensuring project execution, timely delivery, and quality standards.
  • Develop and manage detailed data request lists; review completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Oversee preparation of client deliverables, including complex PowerPoint presentations, ensuring clarity and strategic alignment.
  • Identify and resolve complex issues within engagements using advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Serve as the primary client liaison, leading high-level meetings and providing strategic updates.
  • Analyze insurance programs to assess profitability and risk via premium and loss data.
  • Collaborate with brokerage teams to address insureds’ requirements and policy specs.
  • Maintain and enhance financial reporting frameworks for fronting carriers and captive managers.
  • Lead risk pricing initiatives and premium allocation leveraging actuarial insights.
  • Coordinate with underwriting, actuarial, and service teams for accurate program delivery.
  • Develop and present sophisticated proposals to clients and prospects; articulate value propositions.
  • Foster ongoing client engagement through proactive communication and performance monitoring.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to process improvements.

  • Proactively identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues or challenges within engagements, applying advanced problem‑solving skills to deliver effective solutions.
  • Serve as the primary client liaison, leading high‑level project meetings and providing strategic updates on project milestones and outcomes.
  • Conduct in‑depth analysis of insurance programs to assess profitability and risk exposure by evaluating premium and loss history data.
  • Partner with brokerage teams to thoroughly understand and address insureds’ insurance requirements, including certification and policy limit specifications.
  • Maintain and enhance financial reporting frameworks for fronting carriers and captive managers, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead risk pricing initiatives and premium allocation strategies, leveraging actuarial insights and market intelligence.
  • Collaborate with internal underwriting, actuarial, and service teams to ensure integrated and accurate program delivery.
  • Drive the development and presentation of sophisticated proposals to clients and prospects, articulating value propositions and strategic benefits.
  • Foster ongoing client engagement through proactive communication, performance monitoring, and program enhancement recommendations.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the continuous improvement of captive insurance processes and methodologies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related discipline; advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) or professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or equivalent highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in insurance, risk management, or captive insurance, with demonstrated expertise in single parent captive structures.
  • Deep knowledge of captive insurance models, alternative risk financing mechanisms, regulatory environments, and risk management best practices.
  • Proven track record of managing complex client relationships at a senior level, with a consultative approach that drives program success without direct sales responsibilities.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and building trust with senior client stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical mindset with advanced problem‑solving capabilities and a data‑driven approach to underwriting and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM platforms, and familiarity with insurance management and data analytics tools.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required for client engagements and industry events (approximately 10% travel).
