Job description

Client Accounting Services (CAS) Manager

RedHammer is a fast-growing professional services firm specializing in outsourced accounting for the construction industry. We've doubled our client base in 2 years by leveraging best practices and advanced technologies to make a real difference for our clients.

We're seeking a Client Accounting Services Manager to lead a team of 12-15 accounting professionals responsible for delivering ongoing accounting services to a portfolio of 20+ construction clients. Reporting directly to the partners, you'll combine deep expertise in construction accounting with exceptional leadership skills, owning both your team's performance and your portfolio's P&L. This role requires someone who excels at building lasting client relationships while driving operational excellence and profitability.

As our Client Accounting Services Manager, you'll oversee the complete client lifecycle after implementation, from monthly close processes through strategic advisory services. You'll be the strategic leader who ensures consistent, high-quality service delivery while managing revenue targets, team utilization, pricing decisions, and profit margins. You'll inherit newly implemented clients and nurture long-term relationships that drive retention and growth. This is an opportunity to build and lead a high-performing team while directly impacting RedHammer's profitability and client satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will excel at balancing client needs with business objectives while developing talent and maintaining exceptional service quality. If you have extensive construction accounting experience and thrive on building sustainable client relationships while managing both people and numbers, this role offers the chance to lead a significant business unit within a dynamic, technology-forward firm.

This is a full-time W2 position - we are not seeking self-employed consultants or bookkeepers. The role is remote.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and manage a team of 12-15 accounting professionals, including Accounting Consultants, Senior Accountants, Accountants, and Accounting Technicians
  • Own P&L responsibility for your client portfolio, including revenue targets, team utilization, pricing decisions, and profit margin accountability
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with 15-20 construction company clients, serving as their trusted financial advisor
  • Oversee monthly close processes, financial reporting, and accounting deliverables across your entire client portfolio
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery that meets or exceeds client expectations and drives retention
  • Receive newly implemented clients from the Implementation team and ensure seamless transitions into ongoing maintenance services
  • Conduct regular client business reviews and identify opportunities for service expansion and process improvements
  • Manage team capacity planning, workload distribution, and resource allocation to optimize utilization and profitability
  • Develop and mentor team members through coaching, performance feedback, and career development planning
  • Establish and monitor quality control standards and processes across your team
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical accounting issues and sensitive client matters
  • Collaborate with partners on strategic decisions regarding client retention, pricing, and service offerings
  • Drive process improvements and standardization to enhance team efficiency and service quality
  • Monitor key performance metrics including client satisfaction, team productivity, and portfolio profitability

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience managing accounting teams in a multi-client environment
  • Extensive hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBD)
  • Proven track record of P&L ownership and achieving financial targets
  • Strong client relationship management skills with ability to build trust and drive retention
  • Experience managing teams of 10+ people across multiple skill levels
  • Deep understanding of month-end close processes, financial reporting, and accounting operations
  • Exceptional leadership and team development capabilities
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills for client-facing interactions
  • Strong business acumen with ability to balance client needs and profitability objectives

Nice to Have:

  • Construction accounting experience, including job costing, WIP, and AIA billing (heavily preferred)
  • Experience in outsourced accounting or CAS firm environment (heavily preferred)
  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE and Foundation software
  • CPA, CMA, or CCIFP designation
  • Familiarity with construction software platforms (Procore, Knowify, Bill.com, Ramp, Adaptive)
