Job summary

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of microbiology principles and practice.
• Specialized knowledge of current scientific methods and testing procedures.
• Ability to use standard technical equipment and automated analysis techniques.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety practices.
• Aware of CLIA and related regulations.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly.
• Ability to participate in proficiency testing and QA.
• Ability to compile, analyze, and prepare reports.

Responsibilities

• Conduct examinations of samples for analyses such as molecular detection or isolation of microorganisms/toxins or their antigens/nucleic acids.
• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, testing, reporting, and record keeping of patient results.
• Extract nucleic acids from specimens using manual and automated methods.
• Use molecular techniques such as PCR, sequencing, MALDI-TOF, and WGS.
• Evaluate, interpret, and validate laboratory results and reports.
• Maintain laboratory record system of submitted samples and referrals.
• Perform quality control checks on methods, materials, and equipment per QC policies.
• Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and order as needed to meet testing needs.
