Job summary

Gulf Stream Marine, an Enstructure Company, is hiring a Clerk In Charge to monitor and document cargo movements across vessels, warehouses and trucking operations. The CIC will ensure accuracy, safety and efficiency in discharging, stowing and loading steel cargo while maintaining tallies and records.

Responsibilities include counting and locating cargo, coordinating with trucks and rail cars, and training junior clerks. English literacy required; Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• 2 years experience in shipping & receiving required.
• 1 year of experience handling direct steel cargo required.
• Detail-oriented with ability to follow instructions.
• Safety and quality conscious in work.
• Dependable with ability to work autonomously.
• Strong math and computer skills for counts and tallies.
• Able to work long hours, holidays and weekends.
• English reading/writing required; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Count, inspect, sort, identify and record cargo storage locations for discharging from vessels.
• Count, inspect, sort, identify and record stow locations for cargo loaded onto vessels.
• Load/unload trucks and receive cargo on trucks.
• Load Pipe trucks directly, sort cargo by PO or reference numbers.
• Ship cargo from yard to trucks and load rail cars.
• Mark and measure cargo dimensions.
• Maintain written tallies and records using electronic equipment (tablet and scanner).
• Assist in training Checker I & II levels in steel cargo areas.
• Train ship/terminal clerks; perform other duties as assigned.

In this hands‑on role, you’ll play an important part in keeping our terminal and stevedoring operations safe, accurate, and efficient. You’ll monitor, count, verify, and document cargo movements across vessel, warehouse, and trucking operations while helping ensure cargo is properly handled, accounted for, and documented throughout the process.

The Clerk In Charge (CIC) is responsible for recording cargo movement (discharge, stowing and loading) to and from the customer carrier in a responsible, safe, accurate and efficient manner. The Checker III position will handle primarily steel cargo (pipe, tubing, coils, flats, etc.) and will have prior experience with this commodity.
