Job summary

ONE Gas, Inc. is seeking a Customer Service Clerk in Topeka, KS. This hybrid, full-time role performs basic accounting tasks and clerical duties while delivering excellent customer service.

Responsibilities include handling account requests, researching issues, documenting calls, preparing reports and correspondence, and ensuring timely resolution of billing and service issues. A high school diploma and strong communication skills are required; 18+ and weekday hours apply.

• Assist with monitoring, researching and resolving customer account requests.

Job description

We are seeking a customer focused and collaborative Customer Service Clerk that will be responsible for performing basic accounting tasks and clerical work related to customer requests.

Responsibilities

A Customer Service Clerk supports various account functions daily.

• Must live in a one-hour radius of Topeka

You will coordinate and/or perform duties related to monitoring, researching, and/or resolving customer account issues and requests.

Research and resolve Corporation Commission, Better Business Bureau, and other inquiries and complex problems related to customer accounts.

Responsibilities may include general office duties, electronic and paper database management, special projects, billing issues and account adjustments.

Resolve service order exceptions, billing exceptions, meter inventory issues and meter reading exceptions in a timely manner as required by the Audit and Control Department.

Compile, prepare, and/or verify correspondence, customer information, and reports including but not limited to:

• Adjustment memos
• Service orders
• Budgets
• Billing adjustments
• Account Research & Breakdowns
• Special project assignment
• Identity theft
• Bankruptcies
• Letters of credit (irrevocable and regular)
• Trusts and Power of Attorney
• Surety bonds
• Customer accounting forms

Qualifications

• Good social skills with a focus on customer satisfaction
• Ability to effectively communicate in a respectful and assertive manner
• Polished phone demeanor, tone and etiquette is required
• Ability to perform in a demanding and changing work environment Ability to multi-task, including interacting with customers while simultaneously documenting calls
• Maintain and promote a positive attitude while meeting productivity goals
• Comfortable working with computers and web-based applications
• Strong organization and time management
• Accurate typing
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Possess skills to research and problem solve to resolution
• Previous experience in a customer service-oriented role preferred
• Must be 18+ years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Must be able to work any shifts between the hours of 7am-5pm Monday - Friday, and be available to work overtime as needed
• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
• Complete a 180-day probationary period
