Job summary

ONE Gas, Inc. offers a 12-month Apprenticeship Program designed to train new field employees in gas distribution, field service, and gas operations with a strong focus on safety.

The program covers excavation, respiratory protection, PPE, and safe vehicle operation, preparing entrants to safely perform job duties. Responsibilities include operating equipment, installing and renewing main lines, tracing gas leaks, and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform essential physical functions of the job.
• Must be able to recognize consequences of erroneous actions and concentrate on tasks.
• Must be able to work shift work, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate company equipment.
• Perform general construction labor for installation of main lines, service renewals, and line replacement.
• Troubleshoot and investigate gas leaks.
• Respond as first responder to leaks and emergencies to prevent injuries.
• Inspect gas appliances and perform re-lights.
• Communicate company policies and assist customers on site.

Job description

Our Apprenticeship Program is a structured 12 month training program designed to provide new field employees with sufficient training and on-the-job work experience to prepare the employee to properly and safely complete their job duties.

Responsibilities

The program consists of gas distribution, field service, and gas operations while focusing on safety including:

• excavation
• respiratory protection
• personal protective equipment training
• safe vehicle operation

Functions of this job will include, but are not limited to:

• Safely operating company equipment
• Ability to perform general construction labor related to installation of main lines, service renewals, and line replacement
• Troubleshooting and investigating gas leaks
• First responder to leaks - reacting immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others
• Examining and inspecting gas appliances and performing re-lights
• Accurately communicating company policies and procedures and assisting customers with inquiries while on site

Required experience
The successful candidate must have:

• a high school diploma or equivalent
• a valid driver's license
• a CDL or the ability to successfully obtain a CDL during the 180-day probationary period.

The successful candidate must have the ability to process information in an organized, timely and accurate manner.
The successful candidate must have the ability to work shift work, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency situations.
Required to respond to service center within 30 minutes.
