Schuff Steel is seeking a Cleaner Painter to prep and paint various surfaces for commercial building, bridge, and industrial projects. You will operate cleaning and painting equipment, follow SSPC standards, and ensure safe, compliant surface preparations. A high school diploma or GED with related experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or 3–6 months related experience or training.
• Knowledge of SSPC Codes and coatings application basics.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and maintenance instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operation and maintenance of all applicable equipment.
• Evaluate surface preparation to ensure SSPC compliance.
• Apply coatings to the required dry mils per specs.
• Knowledge of different coatings and application methods.
• Adhere to environmental rules and regulations.
• Use grinders, chippers, sanders and overhead cranes as needed.
• Read and layout work orders or instructions from supervisor.
• Read piece mark numbers for job tracking.
• Know SSPC Codes and requirements.
• Keep the work area organized and clean.
• Perform other duties as directed by management.
• Follow all safety rules and PPE requirements.

Core Responsibilities

• Reading piece mark numbers.
• Need to know SSPC Codes.

• Perform other routine duties per management direction.
• Must adhere to and follow all safety rules and PPE requirements

Education/Training/Work Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specialized Knowledge – Certificates & Licenses

• Equipment Knowledge & Skills – may include but not limited to hand blasting, machine blasting, sprayer and air compressor.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
