New York State Office of Mental Health is seeking staff to perform cleaning and care tasks across assigned areas under supervision. Responsibilities include removal of hazardous articles, moving furniture for cleaning, floor and surface cleaning, and maintaining lavatories.

There are no formal education or experience requirements, but incumbents must be physically capable and able to understand written or oral instructions.

• Move furniture and equipment to enable cleaning and care functions.
• Use mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning implements to wash floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions, windows from the inside of the building; use manual and/or mechanical equipment to strip, wax floors and shampoo carpets.
• Scrub and clean lavatories with hand-operated equipment and detergents; dust assigned areas.

Duties Description

Under supervision, the incumbent will perform a variety of tasks requiring light, medium, and heavy physical effort in cleaning and caring for an assigned area.

Under supervision, the incumbent will perform a variety of tasks requiring light, medium, and heavy physical effort in cleaning and caring for an assigned area.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• picking up and removing hazardous articles which may be on floors, furniture, and equipment, and places them in designated receptacles or in appropriate places;
• moving furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning and care functions;
• using mops, brushes, detergents, buffers, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning implements to wash floors, corridors, stairs and stairwells, walls, partitions, windows from the inside of the building; using manual and/or mechanical equipment, strips, vacuums and waxes floors and shampoos carpets;
• using hand-operated equipment and detergent to scrub and clean all areas of lavatories; using hand-dusting equipment to dust assigned areas.

This position is eligible for the Down State adjustment of $4,000.
