Job summary

The Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA), Oklahoma Youth Academy Charter School (OYACS) seeks a Paraprofessional to assist teachers and students in daily classroom curriculum and activities. You will support educational growth and help students reach their intellectual, emotional, and social potential.

Responsibilities include maintaining classroom order, tutoring, and aiding in material preparation and distribution.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and one of the following: Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (no less than 48 hours of college coursework), OR
• Earned an associate’s degree (or higher), OR
• Take and pass the ACT WorkKeys Assessment scoring a Bronze or higher

Responsibilities

• Communications: Establishes and maintains effective educational relationships with students and teachers. Communicates high expectations for all students. Promotes a positive environment and exchanges ideas.
• Substitute in Classrooms: Maintains classroom management in accordance with OYACS standards. Keeps students at their curriculum pace even in the absence of the teacher. Assists the students with their specific content (all classes) without pausing the pace.
• Tutoring: Assists students with practice and deepen their understanding of new and existing knowledge. Assist students in every class as needed.
• Provides assistance to teaching staff in maintaining discipline and order in the classroom.
• Types and copies materials for daily activities; assist in arranging and distributing material to students; assists with the operation of equipment used in the classroom by teaching staff and students.
