Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Teacher Assistant to support classroom activities and student learning in our schools. Under supervision of a licensed teacher, you will assist with assignments, supervise students during meals and transitions, and help prepare instructional materials.

The role requires an ISBE paraprofessional license (or eligibility) and basic knowledge of English grammar, with a focus on working well with children in a school setting. Competitive benefits accompany this position.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid ISBE paraprofessional license or be able to obtain it after meeting qualification criteria.
• Strong knowledge of proper English grammar and spelling.
• Ability to work with school-aged children and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervision of students during lunchroom and playground activities.
• Help students understand and complete classroom assignments and tutor under teacher supervision.
• Assist teachers with bulletin boards and displaying student work; operate basic office equipment.
• Assist in collecting and grading homework and examination materials under teacher supervision.
• Supervise loading/unloading of students on school buses and assist in distribution of books.
