Derby Public Schools seeks a paraeducator to support certified staff in classrooms, reinforcing literacy, math and computer skills while assisting with assessments and student behavior. The role freeing teachers for curriculum work and school-wide initiatives.

The candidate should have an associates degree or Para Pro exam as a credential and relate well to diverse learners, including students with special needs. Familiarity with Word/Excel is a plus.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent or passing score on Para Pro exam.
• Experience with special needs students is desirable.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of students.

Responsabilités

• Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
• Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
• Assists professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills.
• Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
• Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
• Accompanies students on field trips for supervision.
• Assists teacher with parent contact to foster effective involvement in education.
• Assists students with disabilities to maximize inclusion in activities.
• Follows safety rules and procedures for students with disabilities or other needs.
