Job summary

Tompkins County is seeking a Teacher Aide to support licensed teachers by handling non-instructional duties, managing materials, and assisting students with special needs in a full-time capacity. The role emphasizes supervision, clerical tasks, and classroom support under the supervision of a teacher or principal.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, or relevant experience, with NYS certification where applicable.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or the ability to obtain.
• Four years of full-time paid experience in the classroom subjects to be taught, or equivalent
• Possession of current certification by NYS or other appropriate agency to practice the vocation
• Any combination of training and experience equal to or greater than above

Responsibilities

• Supervise students and perform non-instructional services as directed by the teacher.
• Manage records, materials, and equipment.
• Attend to the physical needs of students and assist those with special needs.
• Relieve teachers for short periods by supervising students.
• Handle clerical tasks such as copying, filing, and reporting.
• Supervise lunch, recess, study halls, detentions and bus loading/unloading.
• Proctor exams and assist with testing modifications.
• Assist in preparing and demonstrating instructional tools and materials.
• Assist with classroom preparation, distribution of materials, and bulletin boards.
• Encourage student focus, participation, and adherence to directions.
• Support behavior management routines and reinforcement activities.
• Assist with assignments and learning activities.
