Job summary

Abraxas Youth and Family Services in Morgantown, PA is seeking an Intervention Specialist/Teacher Aide to support adolescents in a structured residential setting. You will provide instructional and therapeutic services, supervise daily activities, and coordinate with educational and clinical staff to achieve treatment and educational goals.

Paid training is provided. Qualifications include a PA driver’s license, background checks, and at least 21 years old.

What You’ll Do

As an Intervention Specialist/Teacher Aide, you will be a role model, teach and supervise adolescents in a structured residential environment. In this role, you will direct service work providing a full range of educational and therapeutic services directed toward the care and rehabilitation of clients. Comprehensive paid training is provided to prepare new employees for success in our team-oriented environment.

Your responsibilities may include:
  • Performs one on one or small group instruction with residents in math or reading.
  • Participates with and supervises clients in daily programmatic activities.
  • Maintains an active caseload of 12-15 juvenile clients needing extra reading or math support.
  • Follows policies and procedures of the program/facility.
  • Provides leadership and serves as a role model to clients in the performance of academic activities.
  • Provides for physical safety and care of clients who are under supervision.
  • Reports significant changes in the behavior, attitude, or physical condition of clients to higher-level staff members.
  • Interacts with educational and clinical staff to ensure overall treatment and educational goals are accomplished.
  • Participates in conferences regarding client behavior and academic progress.
  • Complies with program/facility safety systems and building security.
  • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance with current departmental practices.
  • Supports the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and no experience; OR
  • A minimum of sixty (60) college credits from a regionally accredited college and one (1) year’s experience working with youths.
  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Must have a valid PA Driver's License.

Other Qualifications:

  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Physical exams that include TB and drug testing.
  • Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
  • Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
