Job summary

SEK-CAP, Inc. in Galena, KS invites applications for a Full-time, Non-Exempt position supporting Head Start classrooms. You will help create a safe, engaging learning environment, assist with documentation, and collaborate with staff, volunteers, and families.

The role emphasizes Early Childhood Development knowledge, strong teamwork, and the ability to follow schedules while respecting cultural diversity. Some certifications and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• CDA or Associates in ECD or equivalent is preferred.
• Obtain CDA within 18 months or an Associates in ECD.
• Obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days.
• Obtain Bus Monitoring training at first available opportunity.
• Successfully complete a physical exam and TB skin test before beginning employment and every three years thereafter.
• Submit to and pass standard criminal history check.
• Submit to and pass standard drug screen test.
• Possess current, valid driver’s license and meet agency insurance underwriting guidelines.
• Successfully complete a physical exam and TB skin test.

Responsibilities

• Follow the daily schedule and allow children the opportunity to make choices in learning experiences.
• Interact with children in ways that facilitate expressive language and thought.
• Work cooperatively with volunteers, partners, and co-workers.
• Demonstrate realistic expectations about children’s attention spans and needs.
• Team with center staff to provide an inviting, engaging learning environment.
• Assist with observations and documentation of each child’s developmental level.
• Float among classrooms to meet supervision requirements.
• Eat meals with children as assigned.
• Utilize Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies to prevent and defuse challenging behavior.
• Comply with Head Start Performance Standards, Licensing Requirements, and Program Policies.
• Respect and support cultural differences and diverse family structures.
• Attend mandatory In-Service trainings and staff meetings.
• Report suspected abuse or neglect to appropriate authority.
• Maintain confidentiality and promote SEK-CAP values and mission.
