Job summary

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is hiring Classroom Teacher Assistants for our child care program. Shifts run on weekdays from 8am to 3pm and 3pm to 6:30pm, with flexible schedules available.

Pay starts at $16.04+ per hour, depending on education and experience, and includes benefits like a free YMCA membership. Responsibilities include aiding daily activities, creating a positive, safe, and nurturing environment, and helping children develop confidence, listening, and self-discipline.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18.
• Minimum of six months of basic experience working with children preferred
• Must be comfortable changing diapers
• CPR/AED/First Aid training on-site; completion of Child Abuse Prevention trainings

Responsibilities

• Assisting with daily activities for children enrolled in the program
• Providing a quality experience that focuses on YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring
• Assisting in developing self-confidence, self-control, listening skills, ability to follow directions and work habits
• Assisting with set-up and clean‑up of activities (lunch, snack, projects, etc.)
• Ensuring a safe, positive, nurturing environment and continually and actively involve self with children
