Job summary

Mead School District is seeking a Classified Nurse (LPN/RN) to provide professional health care for students and staff across designated schools. You will implement the health services program, administer medications, and support health plans for students with special needs.

The role supports the Health Services program under the direction of Certificated Nurses and District policies, with a typical school-year schedule of 180 days plus holidays. Competitive hourly wage and benefits are provided.

JOB SUMMARY

Following the Health Services program direction provided by the Certificated School Nurses, LPN/RN Classified Nurses provide professional health care to students and staff to prevent, identify, and/or remediate health problems which may impair learning, social adjustment, or emotional well-being of students. Classified Nurses may be assigned to an individual student or to a school.

Essential Functions
  • Utilizing program direction provided by Certificated RN, implement school's health services program following requirements established by school district’s policies, procedures, and protocols, and by local, state and national regulations and statutes.
  • May be assigned in a one-on-one capacity to implement the health care plan for an individual student with special health needs.
  • May oversee daily operations of the assigned buildings’ health room including management of inventory and ensuring completion of all health-related documentation for school site.
  • Provide professional nursing care, including emergency first aid treatment for student illness and injury occurring in school or while the student is under the jurisdiction of the school.
  • Accurately administer medication, maintain documentation and care records, monitor effectiveness of medication and provide feedback to certificated nurses.
  • Assist Certificated Nurses in the development, implementation, evaluation and documentation of health care plans to ensure appropriate care to students identified.
  • Provide health related data for a variety of multi-disciplinary teams at the building level to assess student health status, interpret medical records, make recommendations, and develop the health care components for students with identified health needs. May participate as the health team specialist as needed.
  • Assist in coordinating and completing state mandated vision and hearing screening as required and in accordance with the Washington State Codes including re-screenings and referrals as indicated.
  • Provide general health education and provide health counseling and guidance to students, school staff and parents.
  • Orient building staff regarding individual student health needs.
  • Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases following the Infectious Disease Control and Immunization Guidelines.
  • Work in cooperation with certificated and classified staff to promote a medically effective, friendly and caring atmosphere for students, staff and parents
  • Collaborate with Certificated Nurses and other Classified Nurses on a variety of topics impacting daily duties.
  • May communicate with Licensed Health Providers, Parents, and others in the district or community as directed.
  • Monitor school environment for safety and health concerns and alert administration of concerns identified.
  • Maintain knowledge of current laws and regulations pertaining to nursing, health care, and school/public health.
  • Fulfill the standard of care needed for each student within the scope of duties approved by the Mead School District and Nursing License while following District policies, procedures and state and federal law.
  • Perform other nursing duties as assigned according to job description and/or licensure.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Current RN or LPN licensure with the appropriate State Board
  • Experience in nursing duties with children is preferred
  • CPR and advanced First Aid Certification required

  • Ability to work with students with a wide range of behaviors, emotional disabilities, and medical conditions.
  • Must favorably pass the Washington State Patrol/FBI background check.
  • Ability to maintain health records and confidentiality of students, parents and staff members.
  • Excellent record keeping ability and clerical skills.
  • Must have excellent communications skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and a team player.
  • Ability to respond to and handle emergency situations in a calm, professional, effective manner.
  • Experience with equipment found in the school setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in appropriate lifting procedures, incurring no injury to students or self.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of the Mead Support and Service Professionalsand Policies and Procedures of Mead School District. A typical school year consists of 180 days plus 10 holidays,September through June of each school year. The individual number of days may vary by position as defined within the CBA.

The salary range for the position is: Min $27.05 - Max $48.75. Salary placement will be at step 1 on the appropriate scale for the position unless otherwise noted within the contract. Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. A maximum of three (3) days of annual leave are provided for all employees based on the employee’s scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours, or to be accumulated for the purpose of cash out.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
