Job summary

Bernalillo County seeks a Classification Specialist (MDC) at the Metropolitan Detention Center to administer intake, conduct inmate interviews, assess histories, and determine security levels in line with ACA standards. Handling confidential information, you may access NCIC data and generate required reports.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED and five years in criminal justice, counseling, or social work, with flexibility regarding schedule and training obligations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, and five (5) years of related work experience in criminal justice, counseling, or social work. Any equivalent combination related to education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial interviews with inmates; assess level of security and prepare inmate files; review history and prior records to determine classification.
• Review security check forms and obtain legal and personal information to determine appropriate classification; conduct security risk assessments.
• Maintain confidential/inmates' records; may access NCIC database and related processes.
• Attend meetings to review classification decisions and monitor all phases of the process for compliance.
• Review and respond to inmate grievances related to classification; write reports and make court recommendations.
• Document case management processes; prepare case file reports for periodic classification review.
• Attend mandatory training and assist in monitoring inmate security.
