Job summary

Bernalillo County is seeking a Classification Specialist (MDC) to administer intake, interview inmates, assess security levels, and maintain inmate records in accordance with ACA standards. The role involves handling confidential information and may require NCIC access, with overtime and nonstandard hours as needed.

The position offers county benefits, and work may include flexible scheduling to support operations within the Metropolitan Detention Center.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of related work experience in criminal justice, counseling, or social work.
• Any equivalent combination related to education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake interviews with inmates; review history and records to determine security level.
• Assess security needs and prepare/maintain inmate files with relevant staff.
• Provide information to families or designated individuals on community services and detention issues.
• Review inmate grievances and write reports or recommendations for the court as needed.
• Document case management, maintain notes and prepare case file reports for reviews.
