Job summary

The Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a Classification Officer for Union Correctional Institution in Raiford. This on-site role supports the Classification Department by assessing inmates, planning housing and program placements, and promoting safety and rehabilitation.

The position requires thorough case management, data review in OBIS, and detailed record-keeping, with participation in disciplinary hearings and gain-time processes to advance inmate management and reintegration goals.

Qualifications

• Experience reviewing, auditing, analyzing, and/or proofreading data.
• Experience applying laws, applicable rules, and procedures.
• Experience or training in the use of the Offender Based Information System (OBIS) and/or related computer programs or applications.

• Experience responding to grievances, inmate requests, or other correspondence.

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Union Correctional Institution in the Classification department.

The Classification Department accurately assesses and classifies inmates based on their needs, risks, and behaviors. We ensure appropriate housing and program placements within the correctional system. Our goal is to enhance safety and security while promoting effective rehabilitation, ultimately aiding in the successful reintegration of inmates into society.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

REQUIREMENTS

The selected candidate must meet four (4) of the six (6) below listed qualifications OR have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

• Experience in case management that uses assessments, planning, coordination, and evaluation to meet the individuals’ needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following qualifications:

• Four years’ experience in caseload management; or
• Four years’ experience analyzing data and/or interpreting rules/statutes.

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
