Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a Senior Classification Officer at Union Correctional Institution to manage inmate classifications and case management. You will assess inmate needs, supervise progress, and prepare comprehensive plans within our Classification Department.

The role requires excellent communication, ability to evaluate reports, interviews, and correspondence, and to train staff. This is an on-site, non-telework position serving the assigned area.

Qualifications

  • Two years of State Classification Officer experience.
  • File audit and custody procedures knowledge.
  • Disciplinary processes knowledge.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of inmate change and movement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse caseload of inmates and prepare comprehensive inmate management plans.

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Union Correctional Institution in the Classification department.

The Classification Department accurately assesses and classifies inmates based on their needs, risks, and behaviors. We ensure appropriate housing and program placements within the correctional system. Our goal is to enhance safety and security while promoting effective rehabilitation, ultimately aiding in the successful reintegration of inmates into society.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Manage a diverse caseload of inmates, including those with special statuses, and prepare comprehensive inmate management plans
  • Recommend custody classifications and institutional/program assignments based on thorough evaluations from reports, interviews, and correspondence.
  • Supervise and evaluate inmate progress, preparing detailed progress reports and making special status recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate inmate information in the department’s offender database system and evaluate gain time awards.
  • Assist in training new classification staff, support the Classification Supervisor with administrative functions, and manage a Release Officer caseload.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess two (2) years of State Classification Officer experience.

  • Possess a working knowledge of disciplinary processes
  • Capability to handle large volumes of inmate change and movement.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT:
