Job summary

Coast Transit Authority in Gulfport, MS is seeking an entry-level mechanic to assist in the maintenance garage and perform preventive maintenance on light vehicles. You will gain hands-on experience while completing all required paperwork and documentation for every task performed.

The role requires physical endurance to lift up to 75 lbs, stand for long periods, and work overhead. A High School Diploma or GED is required, and you must pass a DOT physical and drug test.

Qualifications

• One year experience or training in mechanical repairs on heavy trucks or buses.
• Capable of performing minor mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Proficient in repair of air brakes, air systems, air conditioning, chassis, electrical systems, and gas and diesel engine repair.
• Must pass pre-employment DOT Physical Examination and pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test.
• Able to read, write, and follow directions and instructions, department policies, EPA and OSHA guidelines.
• Capable of heavy physical work in a fast-moving automotive maintenance garage.
• Employee must furnish hand tools under 1"; CTA provides tools over 1".
• Must have verifiable work references.
• Requires clean driving record and ability to obtain MS Commercial License Class B with P endorsement.
• Responsible for DOT self-certification for annual inspections and brake inspections.

Job description

This entry level position interacts with fellow employees, requires continual supervision as the tasks are many of those that a \"Class B Mechanic\" or \"Class A Mechanic\" could perform. Responsibilities include assisting others in the maintenance garage, perform preventive maintenance on light vehicles, and mechanical repairs on such vehicles. Will complete all paperwork, check lists, and documentation on any task performed.

Requirements:

Sustained physical endurance to lift up to 75 lbs., continuously stand, work with arms extended overhead, climb, and squat, as well as the ability to work in a fast-moving automotive maintenance garage.

DOT Physical Examination and Functional Capacity Exam required (paid by CTA).
