Job summary

Position Summary

Boudreau Pipeline Corporation is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Transport Driver to safely transport heavy construction equipment, materials, and other company assets throughout Southern California.

The primary responsibility of this position is transporting heavy construction equipment using a Class A tractor and 16-tire Murray lowbed trailer. The driver will transport excavators weighing up to approximately 80,000 pounds, wheel loaders, dozers, trenchers, backhoes, and other heavy civil construction equipment.

This position will also provide transportation support based on operational needs, including operating a three-axle dump truck with equipment trailer, providing coverage for the company's current dump truck driver, transporting smaller equipment, and making occasional material or other jobsite deliveries.

This is not an entry-level Class A driving position. The successful candidate must have hands-on heavy-equipment hauling experience and be capable of safely loading, positioning, securing, transporting, and unloading construction equipment.

Essential Job Functions

• Safely operate Class A tractor-trailer combinations to transport construction equipment between company facilities, vendor locations, and active project sites.
• Operate a16-tire Murray lowbed trailer and other company trailers as assigned.
• Transport excavators weighing up to approximately 80,000 pounds, wheel loaders, dozers, trenchers, backhoes, skid steers, attachments, and other construction equipment.
• Safely navigate active construction sites, confined work areas, uneven terrain, and other challenging loading and delivery conditions.

Equipment Loading, Unloading & Securement

• Safely load and unload construction equipment being transported.
• Operate construction equipment as necessary to safely load, position, and unload it.
• Determine appropriate equipment placement and weight distribution on trailers.
• Select and properly use chains, binders, straps, blocking, and other appropriate securement devices.
• Identify proper securement points and ensure loads comply with applicable DOT/FMCSA requirements.
• Verify load dimensions, weight distribution, axle loading, clearances, and securement before transport.
• Inspect and recheck load securement as required.

Dump Truck & Operational Transportation Support

• Operate athree-axle dump truck, with or without an equipment trailer, as operational needs require.
• Provide coverage for the company's primary dump truck driver during vacations, absences, or other scheduling needs.
• Transport smaller construction equipment using the dump truck and trailer combination when appropriate.
• Make occasional deliveries of construction materials, tools, attachments, supplies, or other company assets to project sites and company locations.
• Assist with other transportation and delivery needs as required to support field operations and changing business needs.
• Understand and comply with applicable oversize and overweight permits, approved routes, travel restrictions, bridge and clearance limitations, and pilot/escort requirements.
• Review and follow permits and routing information provided by the company or dispatch.
• Communicate with dispatch regarding transportation schedules, permitted moves, routing concerns, and jobsite requirements.

Inspection, Compliance & Documentation

• Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractors, dump trucks, and trailers.
• Identify and immediately report mechanical, trailer, tire, brake, lighting, securement, or other safety concerns.
• Maintain required ELD records, DVIRs, permits, and transportation documentation.
• Maintain compliance with applicable DOT, FMCSA, Cal/OSHA, and company safety requirements.

Communication & Field Coordination

• Communicate effectively with dispatch, Equipment Department personnel, project managers, superintendents, foremen, vendors, and field personnel.
• Coordinate safe equipment pickup and delivery with field personnel.
• Maintain professional conduct when representing Boudreau Pipeline at jobsites, vendor facilities, and other locations.
• Adapt to changing project schedules, priorities, transportation needs, and field conditions.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and current DOT medical certification.
• Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and ability to meet company and insurance driving requirements.
• Minimum three years of demonstrated experience hauling heavy construction equipment using lowbed, lowboy, or comparable heavy-equipment trailers.
• Demonstrated ability to safely load and unload excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, and similar construction equipment.
• Strong working knowledge of DOT-compliant heavy-equipment securement using chains, binders, blocking, straps, and related equipment.
• Working knowledge of equipment placement, weight distribution, axle loading, height and width restrictions, and oversize/overweight transportation requirements.
• Ability to safely maneuver tractor-trailer and dump truck/trailer combinations in active construction environments and confined jobsites.
• Ability to safely operate construction equipment sufficiently to load, position, and unload equipment being transported.
• Ability and willingness to operate a three-axle dump truck and equipment trailer as required.
• Ability to pass required DOT physical, drug/alcohol testing, and company driving qualification requirements.

Preferred

• Experience operatingMurray lowbed trailers or comparable multi-axle equipment trailers.
• Experience transporting excavators or other equipment weighing approximately 80,000 pounds.
• Southern California heavy-equipment transportation and construction-site experience.
• Experience transporting permitted oversize/overweight loads.

Schedule & Availability

This position supports active construction operations, and work schedules will vary based on project and transportation requirements.

• Most weekends off. Weekend work may occasionally be required based on project schedules and business needs.
• Early morning starts and extended workdays may be required.
• Some projects may operate across extended hours, requiring flexibility in start and end times.
• Overtime should be expected based on equipment moves, project schedules, traffic, and operational requirements.
• Schedule changes may occur as field and transportation needs change.

All work schedules and driving hours will be managed in accordance with applicable DOT/FMCSA hours-of-service requirements.

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular outdoor work in construction and transportation environments. Employees must be able to climb onto and off tractors, trailers, dump trucks, and construction equipment; walk and work on uneven terrain; bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and maintain balance while loading, inspecting, and securing equipment.

The position requires frequent handling of chains, binders, blocking, and other transportation equipment weighing up to approximately 75 pounds. Heavier items must be handled using appropriate assistance or mechanical means.

Work is performed primarily outdoors at company facilities, vendor locations, public roadways, and active construction sites throughout Southern California. Conditions may include heat, cold, rain, wind, dust, traffic, uneven terrain, loud equipment, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of heavy civil construction.
