Safety Coordinator

Salary Range: $70,000.00 To $75,000.00 Annually

POSITION SUMMARY

The Safety Coordinator supports the company's safety programs and initiatives by promoting a positive safety culture, assisting with regulatory compliance efforts, and helping identify and mitigate workplace hazards. This position works closely with Operations, Project Management, Human Resources, Risk Management, and Safety leadership to support safe work practices, conduct inspections, investigate incidents, and assist with the implementation of corrective actions.

The Safety Coordinator serves as a safety resource for field and office personnel, helping ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA/Cal/OSHA regulations, and industry best practices. This role provides day-to-day safety support on active construction projects and assists with safety training, documentation, and reporting activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct jobsite inspections, safety audits, field observations, and hazard assessments across company operations.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and communicate corrective action recommendations to supervisors and field personnel.
  • Assist in addressing safety concerns and escalating serious hazards to Safety Management and Operations leadership.
  • Support incident, injury, near miss, and property damage investigations and assist with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts.
  • Prepare investigation documentation and help track corrective and preventive action items.
  • Maintain safety records, inspection reports, incident logs, training records, and related documentation.
  • Assist in analyzing safety trends, inspection findings, and incident data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of safety policies, procedures, Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPP), and safe work practices.
  • Help ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Assist with the development and review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and other risk assessment tools.
  • Provide safety support for construction activities including excavation, trenching, confined space entry, traffic control, heavy equipment operations, and PPE requirements.
  • Conduct and facilitate safety orientations, toolbox talks, and other safety training programs.
  • Partner with Operations and field leadership to address safety concerns and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in safety meetings and support safety committees and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as a point of contact for field personnel regarding routine safety questions and concerns.
  • Assist Safety Management with regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance activities.
  • Respond to incidents and safety-related concerns as needed, including occasional after-hours support.
  • Promote employee involvement, accountability, and continuous improvement in all safety-related activities.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of safety experience, preferably in construction, utilities, pipeline, civil construction, or industrial operations.
  • Combination of education and relevant safety experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations preferred.
  • Experience supporting field operations, supervisors, and project teams in safety-related matters.
  • Basic knowledge of safety program implementation, safety training, and corrective action processes.
OTHER CRITERIA
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations and construction safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of construction and utility safety practices, including excavation, trenching, confined space entry, traffic control, heavy equipment operations, and PPE.
  • Understanding of incident investigation and Root Cause Analysis principles.
  • Ability to interpret safety requirements and communicate expectations effectively to employees and supervisors.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and safety management software preferred.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Requirements: This position requires a combination of office and field work. Employees regularly sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, and use hands and fingers to operate computers, mobile devices, and office equipment. Field activities may require walking on uneven terrain, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment: Work is performed in both office and construction field environments. Employees may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, moving equipment, and other construction-related hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when visiting project sites in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
