Job description

Summary

Responsible for safely and efficiently operating a tractor‑trailer or box truck to deliver finished product to customers in accordance with state and federal laws.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 11 am – 7 pm.

Pay

Starting at $25 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Complies with driver responsibilities as outlined in company DAART program and as required by DOT.
• Maintain vehicle in accordance with Elkhart Transportation management policy.
• Operate vehicle in a safe and efficient manner complying with company policy and procedures, and applicable state and federal laws.
• Support on‑time delivery by transporting loads by established route to proper destination as efficiently as possible while observing all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Inspect trailer loads to ensure proper loading processes and verify it is the correct load before leaving facility.
• Verify product count while truck is being loaded.
• Comply with obtaining correct acknowledgement or signature and date for bill of lading and necessary signatures and date; return properly completed documentation to Transportation Manager.
• Comply with performance measures.
• Duties may vary depending on location.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CDLA License.

Experience:

• Prior experience driving large vehicles, such as box truck or similar.
• Demonstrated experience practicing safe driving practices.
• Previous experience delivering and handling freight preferred.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk and talk or hear.
• Requires frequent use of hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Occasionally required to sit.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to ambient temperatures. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. On the road, the employee may encounter traffic or other hazardous driving conditions.
