Summary of Position

Requires a commercial drivers' license. Drive a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR). Follow DOT Safety regulations. Understand the different types of moving jobs. Drive trucks to customer residences, office locations, or storage facilities, and pack, load, unload household goods. Serve as the crew leader and customer service representative.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Perform vehicle pre-trip inspections to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Submit pre-trip forms to Fleet Safety and report vehicle issues.
  2. Follow safety procedures for transporting household goods. Ensure doors are securely closed and equipment is properly placed.
  3. Inspect loads to ensure cargo is secure using straps or covers.
  4. Maintain logs of working hours and vehicle service or repair status, complying with regulations.
  5. Manoeuver trucks into loading/unloading positions, following signals and ensuring proper vehicle and equipment positioning.
  6. Report vehicle accidents, mechanical failures, traffic violations, or damage to fleet management.
  7. Before local COD deliveries, contact Dispatcher to confirm payment or collect payment from customers, accepting certified checks and money orders. Obtain customer signatures on the Bill of Lading and Freight Bill, then return paperwork and payments.
  8. Drive CDL and Non-CDL trucks to transport household goods and materials.
  9. Check load documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  10. Obtain weight measurements at authorized stations when required, submitting weight tickets with paperwork.
  11. Couple or uncouple trailers, change trailer jack positions, connect/disconnect air or electrical lines, and manipulate fifth-wheel locks.
  12. Inspect trailers after unloading for damages.
  13. Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as adding oil, fuel, radiator fluid, or minor repairs.
  14. Secure vehicles with trailer landing gear.
  15. Adhere to route restrictions, weight, and height limitations (e.g., low bridges, tunnels).
  16. Load and unload trucks, assisting with equipment as needed.
  17. Conduct detailed inventory of household items, ensuring labels match inventory lists and noting damages.
  18. Wrap and secure household goods using appropriate materials.
  19. Follow safety procedures for flatbed trucks, ensuring loads are properly secured with strapping and tarping.
  20. Plan, coordinate, and execute relocations, directing helpers, packers, and loaders.
  21. Refuel vehicles at the end of shifts.
  22. Request daily assignments from Dispatch and follow instructions and paperwork provided.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class A CDL License.
  • At least 23 years old with 2 years of driving experience.
  • Legal to work in the US.
  • Pass criminal background check, DOT drug test, and FMCSA Clearinghouse registration.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Provide a 10-year work history.
  • Meet medical requirements for a DOT physical.
  • Pass a road test.
