Qualifications

  • 7+ years of commercial property claims handling experience, including complex and large loss claims.
  • 3–5 years of claims supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial property coverage, estimating practices, investigation techniques, and claim resolution strategies.
  • Experience managing catastrophe, large loss, or complex commercial property claims strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently on technical and administrative matters in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Establish clear daily priorities and operational expectations to support timely claim handling and exceptional customer service.
  • Lead a team of three (3) to four (4) commercial property claims adjusters to ensure monthly and quarterly KPIs are met or exceeded.
  • Provide direction, training, and technical support related to coverage analysis, investigation, estimating, large loss management, and claim resolution.
  • Oversee claim inventory through regular file reviews, quality audits, and workload management to ensure timely and accurate handling.
  • Provide reserve and settlement authority within established company guidelines.
  • Monitor and manage large losses, complex claims, and catastrophe-related claims, ensuring appropriate escalation and reporting.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, independent adjusters, engineers, contractors, and vendors as needed.
  • Attend monthly management meetings as required.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with adjuster licensing requirements.

Job description

The Commercial Property Claims Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of an assigned team comprised of 3-4 Commercial Property Claims Adjusters. They exercise strong critical thinking skills, judgment, and initiative in the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of commercial property losses. The role is accountable for the consistent delivery of high-quality claim handling, operational efficiency, and customer service.


The Commercial Property Claims Supervisor ensures their team adheres to all applicable regulations, company policies, and licensing requirements. They serve as a leader who positively influences their team, providing coaching, technical guidance, and support through changes in the organization and the industry. They foster an environment where teamwork, accountability, and an entrepreneurial mindset drive strong performance and achievement of team, division, and company goals.


As a member of the leadership team, the Commercial Property Claims Supervisor models professionalism, integrity, and accountability while promoting continuous improvement, operational excellence, and proactive problem solving. This role also safeguards sensitive information, systems, and data against fraud, cyber threats, and other risks, maintaining strict confidentiality in all employee and claim-related matters.


Additionally, the Commercial Property Claims Supervisor communicates with Senior Management, in-house legal team and other key stakeholders regarding claims involving complex coverage issues, large losses, catastrophe exposure, or other unusual circumstances.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning


  • Establish clear daily priorities and operational expectations to support timely claim handling and exceptional customer service.

  • Develop and execute plans to ensure claims are investigated, evaluated, and resolved within established timelines and authority levels.

  • Promote awareness across the team of how individual performance impacts customers, agents, and overall company success.

  • Encourage adaptability and responsiveness to changing business needs, client expectations, and market conditions.

  • Foster a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work environment built on trust, accountability, and open communication.

  • Encourage staff to identify process improvements, challenge inefficiencies, and contribute solutions that enhance performance and service.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education Requirements


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred.


Experience Requirements


  • Minimum of 7+ years of commercial property claims handling experience, including complex and large loss claims.

  • Prior 3-5 years of claims supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial property coverage, estimating practices, investigation techniques, and claim resolution strategies.

  • Experience managing catastrophe, large loss, or complex commercial property claims strongly preferred.
