Job summary

The Jacobson Group in New Orleans, LA is seeking a Claims Supervisor to lead a specialized unit within the claims department. You will supervise claim examiners, technical assistants, and external adjusters to ensure accurate, timely processing across dwelling, homeowners, liability, and commercial property lines.

You will provide technical guidance, review and settle claims within staff limits or above, manage reserves, and uphold company policies and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of property and/or casualty claims experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Deep understanding of claims operations and laws/regulations.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task under pressure.
  • Field work including climbing ladders and crawling through small spaces.

  • Collaborate with legal counsel, vendors and internal departments for successful claim resolution.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and identify ways to streamline operations.

This position plays a crucial role in maintaining high standards of service and operational efficiency within the claims department.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise claim representatives handling dwelling, homeowners, liability and commercial property lines.
  • Review claims and provide technical direction and ongoing guidance.
  • Ensure and monitor accurate reserve patterns for each claim.
  • Review and authorize claim settlements exceeding staff limits.
  • Manage an effective diary system to ensure timely claims handling.
  • Complete file audits to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate relevant information to staff to facilitate workflow and performance.
  • Work with staff to identify and resolve performance gaps, personnel issues or areas for improvement.
  • Support the execution of special programs and participate in field work and travel as needed.
  • Serve as a catastrophe team member and assist with the company’s catastrophe response plan.
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in performing duties.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal skills and foster a professional work environment.
  • Lead hiring, training, development and performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Provide leadership and problem resolution to improve team productivity and morale.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel, vendors and internal departments for successful claim resolution.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and identify ways to streamline operations.
  • Ensure all safety precautions and confidentiality standards are maintained at all times.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of property and/or casualty claims experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
  • Deep understanding of claims operations and relevant laws and regulations
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task under pressure
  • Physical ability to perform field work including climbing ladders and crawling through small spaces
  • Good manual dexterity and stamina for long periods of walking and standing
  • Capable of working flexible hours if needed
Salary Range

The anticipated salary for this position is $120,000 annually. We understand salary is an important factor in a job search and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
