Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking a Director of Claims – Workers’ Compensation to lead the Central Region claims team and oversee operations across numerous states. This high-impact leadership role focuses on developing teams, managing complex claims, and boosting quality, service, and financial performance.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in WC claims with an insurer, strong leadership and strategic acumen, and licensing readiness.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop Workers’ Compensation claims managers and professionals across multiple jurisdictions.
• Provide strategic oversight of complex, catastrophic, and high-exposure claims.
• Drive effective strategies around compensability, medical management, litigation, reserving, Medicare compliance, settlement, and recovery.
• Monitor claim quality, operational performance, and financial results to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Partner with legal, medical, compliance, actuarial, finance, SIU, and other key stakeholders.
• Build strong relationships with customers, brokers, and business partners.
• Champion talent development, operational consistency, technology, analytics, and continuous improvement.

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking an experienced Director of Claims – Workers’ Compensation to lead our Central Region claims team, overseeing operations across AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MN, MI, MO, MS, NC, NE, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced Workers’ Compensation claims leader who can develop strong teams, oversee complex and high-exposure claims, and drive quality, service, compliance, and financial performance.

• Lead and develop Workers’ Compensation claims managers and professionals across multiple jurisdictions.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years of Workers’ Compensation claims experience with an insurance carrier.
• 5+ years of progressive people-leadership experience in a multi-jurisdictional environment.
• Advanced knowledge of Workers’ Compensation claims, litigation, reserving, medical and disability management, Medicare compliance, settlement, and subrogation.
• Proven success leading claims teams and improving quality, compliance, operational, and financial outcomes.
• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and decision‑making skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; advanced degree or professional designation preferred.
• Licensing Requirement: Candidates must hold an active adjuster license or be willing and able to obtain and maintain all required state licenses. The company will support the licensing process, including cost, training and compliance with ongoing continuing education requirements

Salary $115,000 - $150,000 +bonus

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a good‑faith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.

This role may be based out of one of the following locations:

Wilkes-Barre, PA; Parsippany, NJ; Conshohocken, PA; Rosemont, IL; Plano, TX; or Scottsdale, AZ.
