Job summary

Desjardins Technology Group is seeking a temporary Claims Best practices advisor for a 12-month assignment. The role focuses on property and casualty insurance projects, advising clients, and leading complex initiatives with extensive stakeholder coordination.

You will develop policies, analyze coverage, and serve as a subject matter expert across Claims, Underwriting, Sales, and Commercial Insurance teams, partnering with regional stakeholders in Canada to drive strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• At least six years of relevant experience.

• Proficiency in French (oral and written) and advanced proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients and partners on planning and monitoring strategic property and casualty insurance projects.
• Develop and update policies, standards, models and programs to support projects.
• Identify major issues and make recommendations to decision-making bodies.
• Represent the unit before internal decision-making bodies.
• Manage multiple concurrent mandates with varying durations.
• Conduct detailed coverage analyses for specific claim files when requested.
• Act as liaison between business units to resolve coverage-related questions.
• Review and analyze policy wordings and endorsements proposed by other partners.
• Assess impact of policy wording changes on claims outcomes and risk.
• Provide guidance to ensure language aligns with coverage intent and risk appetite.
• Support development of commercial insurance products with technical expertise.
• Contribute to policy wording reviews for clarity and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with SMEs across Claims, Underwriting, Sales, and Commercial Insurance.
• Partner with regional stakeholders to gather insights and align recommendations.
• Spend 75%–80% of time collaborating with SMEs and partners.
• Present findings and coverage analyses to leadership as required.

Temporary position for 12 months.

As a Claims Best practices advisor, you work on property and casualty insurance projects, initiatives and activities. You provide advice and support on the rollout and integration of programs, systems, products and management tools.You lead development projects and strategic initiatives that are complex and innovative. Your initiatives require extensive knowledge of your specialty area. You make recommendations on the planning and execution of operationally and conceptually complex projects and initiatives that require comprehensive analysis and understanding of the organization and line of business. Coordination is critical, so you interact with stakeholders working in many other fields. Interpersonal savvy is therefore essential. You serve as specialist advisor and subject matter expert, as well as resource person and coach for decision-making bodies.

More specifically, you will be required to:

• Advise your clients and partners to help them position, plan, develop, execute and monitor strategic property and casualty insurance projects and initiatives
• Develop and update policies, standards, models and programs to support your unit’s strategic property and casualty insurance projects and initiatives
• Identify, analyze and diagnose major issues and make recommendations to decision-making bodies
• Represent your unit before internal decision-making bodies
• Manage multiple concurrent mandates, ranging from a few days to several months in duration, depending on complexity and business requirements
• Upon request from Claims partners, conduct detailed coverage analyses for specific claim files and evaluate how policy provisions would apply in those specific circumstances
• Act as a key liaison between business units, facilitating discussions and resolving technical coverage-related questions
• Review and analyze commercial insurance policy wordings, including new endorsements, revisions, and coverage changes proposed by Underwriting, Sales, or other business partners
• Assess the potential impact of policy wording changes on claims outcomes, identifying coverage implications, risks, and unintended consequences
• Provide expert guidance and recommendations on whether proposed policy language aligns with the organization's coverage intent and risk appetite
• Support the development, refinement, and interpretation of commercial insurance products by providing technical expertise and recommendations
• Contribute to policy wording reviews and offer subject matter expertise to ensure clarity, consistency, and regulatory compliance
• Collaborate extensively with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across Claims, Underwriting, Sales, and Commercial Insurance teams
• Partner with regional stakeholders across Quebec and Ontario to gather insights, assess impacts, and align recommendations
• Spend approximately 75% to 80% of time collaborating with SMEs and business partners to support ongoing mandates and strategic initiatives
• Present findings, recommendations, and coverage analyses to leadership as required
