Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years of experience managing commercial and claims-related matters on capital projects.

As a Claims and Variations Analyst, you'll support the owner's team on a landmark rail and transit program in Baltimore, helping manage commercial risk and contractual matters on a multibillion-dollar tunnel replacement project.

Working within an Integrated Program Management Office, you'll analyze information, documents, and submittals, support dispute avoidance and resolution, and provide tactical solutions on commercial topics throughout project delivery. As you develop your expertise, you will be helping to protect project outcomes, mitigate risk, and support successful delivery of this transformative transportation investment.

This position requires working from the Integrated Program Office in Baltimore, Maryland, generally, four days per week.

What you'll do

  • Administer and maintain sufficient documentation of variances, potential changes, and potential claims, and actions necessary to resolve
  • Support, manage, and at times, lead (with supervision) the assessment, negotiation, and resolution of project variations and claims
  • Support claims responses, dispute management activities, and settlement negotiations
  • Identify and document commercial and contractual risks and develop mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and engineers on claims, contract administration, and dispute resolution
  • Develop executive briefings, reports, and recommendations on claims and commercial matters
  • Analyze, Prepare and manage contractual correspondence and documentation
  • Collaborate and coordinate with internal and external project, technical, commercial, and legal teams to drive effective outcomes
  • Interact frequently with senior stakeholders on complex contractual and commercial issues
  • Contribute to risk registers, communication efforts, and SOP’s to support capability development and best practices in claims and variations management
  • Monitor emerging claims and keep project leadership informed of associated risks


Here's what you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of relevant professional experience managing commercial and claims-related matters on capital projects
  • Novice to Intermediate Proficiency with industry-standard project management software and tools used for claims analysis and dispute management
  • Some working knowledge of engineering, construction contract management, and project delivery
  • Some commercial acumen and knowledge of contract management principles
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across client, delivery partner, contractor, and consultant organizations
  • Interest in developing your leadership, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Critical thinking, self-starting, and time management skills sufficient to work independently in a matrixed team environment. Ability to develop excellent communication skills to present complex technical and commercial concepts to executive and senior stakeholder audiences
  • Local to the Baltimore area or willing to relocate


Ideally, you'll also have

  • Interest in acquiring knowledge of commercial risk management practices for complex infrastructure programs
  • Interest in acquiring experience supporting dispute resolution and settlement negotiations

The base salary range for this position is $74,700.00 to $115,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
