Job summary

National Beef is hiring a Claims and Litigation Manager at our Kansas City headquarters. This on-site role oversees employment and liability claims, workers’ compensation, and works with inside and outside counsel to resolve cases efficiently and control costs.

The ideal candidate will have a JD or equivalent and at least five years in workers’ compensation, employment, or liability litigation, along with strong leadership, negotiation, and analytical skills. Background check required.

• Strategy & Oversight: Develop litigation strategies, manage budgets, and oversee law firms.
• Liaison & Communication: Act as the primary contact for employees and vendors.
• Staff & Vendor Management: Oversee claims adjusters and outside firms; provide training.
• Investigation & Evaluation: Investigate claims, assess damages, and evaluate reserves.
• Negotiation & Settlement: Negotiate settlements and represent the company at mediations/trials.
• Process Improvement: Improve claims handling processes and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Claims and Litigation Manager responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Litigation and Claims Manager at our Kansas City headquarters. This critical role will be responsible for managing employment and liability claims litigation and workers’ compensation by working with inside and outside counsel to resolve complex cases efficiently, control costs, and minimize risk while ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a legal degree and have a minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in at least one of the related areas.

Key Responsibilities:

• Case Management: Manage the lifecycle of litigated claims, including complex, high-exposure, or serious injury cases.
• Strategy & Oversight: Develop and implement litigation strategies, manage budgets, and hold law firms accountable.
• Liaison & Communication: Act as a key contact for employees while working with claim team, attorneys, management and vendors, ensuring clear communication on case status and developments.
• Staff & Vendor Management: Provide oversight and manage expectations for the claims adjusters, provide training, and manage relationships with outside law firms. Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and implement strategies for litigation and claims management.
• Investigation & Evaluation: Investigate claims, evaluate damages, determine liability, and evaluate accuracy of reserves.
• Negotiation & Settlement: Working with the Director of Workers’ Compensation and Compliance and Chief Legal Office to develop negotiation and settlement discussions, representing the company at mediations and trials.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve claims handling processes and ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Build a records retention system which will ensure claims documentation of all cases, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Other duties as assigned

Reporting Relationships:

• Reports to the Senior Director of Workers’ Compensation and Compliance

This is an on-site position.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates for the Claims and Litigation Claims Manager position should possess the following:

• Strong legal knowledge in civil litigation and insurance principles
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
• Strong leadership and team management abilities
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Juris-Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal degree from an accredited institution is preferred but not required
• At least five (5) years of experience in workers’ compensation litigation, employment litigation, liability claims or a closely related field

Qualified candidates for this position will be required to successfully complete the background check.

Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
