Job summary

Ames Construction is seeking a Civil Surveying Technician - CAD/3D Modeling to join our Mountain Office. You will build precise 3D machine control and site layout models using Trimble Siteworks/Earthworks, perform earthwork takeoffs, and support field crews with design data.

The role offers autonomy over multiple scopes, CAD drafting standards across projects, and training including FAA Part 107 licensing if needed.

Qualifications

Civil Surveying Technician - CAD/3D Modeling

$95,000 - $135,000 Base Salary + Bonus + ESOP Profit Sharing + 401(k) Match + Health, Dental, Vision (One Low Premium) + PTO + Company Holidays

Are you a Survey CAD Technician or 3D Modeler with Trimble experience looking to join a nationally recognized Heavy Civil General Contractor that will genuinely invest in your training and career?

Are you looking for a role where you will have autonomy to oversee multiple scopes, and own the 3D modeling process of projects end-to-end?

This role is critical to Ames Construction's Mountain Office survey and technology department, reporting to the Head of Survey. You will build precise 3D machine control and site layout models for Trimble's civil suite of products (Siteworks/Earthworks), perform earthwork takeoffs, and be a direct line of support between the office and field crews running digital design data on active projects. You'll also own CAD and drafting standards across projects, keeping everything consistent as the team and workload grow. Furthermore, if you don't yet have your FAA Part 107 license, you will be given the dedicated training for you to receive your license.

Candidate Background, Skills, and Experience

• Must have experience working with Trimble Business Center and Trimble civil software (Siteworks/Earthworks)
• Civil 3D or Bentley experience will be considered, provided you're willing to adapt to Ames' established Trimble workflows
• Must be able to read and interpret grading plans, road alignments, cross sections, and site details from approved engineering plans
• FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot License, or able to obtain one within a year of starting
• Previous field surveying experience preferred but not required
• Strong problem-solving aptitude; must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and well organized
