GreenWood, Inc. is seeking a Civil Superintendent to lead multiple project teams and subcontractors to ensure goals are met on time and within budget. The role involves reviewing drawings, creating plans and schedules, and preparing cost estimates for industrial projects.

The position requires six years in construction/estimating, two years of supervisory experience, and strong budgeting, coordination, and communication skills to support bid packages and on-site execution.

Job Description

The Civil Superintendent plans, directs and coordinates the activities of multiple project teams and subcontractors to ensure that the goals and objectives of the projects are accomplished on time. Jobs are implemented at or below the estimated cost and billed in a timely fashion throughout the duration of the project(s). The Civil Superintendent is also responsible for creating and reviewing all civil construction estimates, which will include excavation, woodwork and concrete, in an industrial environment. Additionally, this individual provides estimating support to the project management team.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and review drawings and/or plans from design partners and architects.
  • Cost estimates on a routine basis
  • Create detailed plans, schedules, drawings, materials list, labor hours, and subcontractors required, to successfully complete project; Prepare, edit, and finalize specifications and other items for the contract, tracking selections and ensuring continuity between drawing and text documents; Prepare or arrange for preparation of production details and plans for project; Prepare budget comparisons between current and previous estimates; Review the project documents for value analysis suggestions
  • Coordinate civil scope of work with mechanical, architectural, structural, and electrical estimators; Meet with client, engineering, and architectural staff to clarify ambiguities in project details; Collaborate with other engineering and project management staff to timely prepare proposal packages; work closely with operations to create buildable, cost-effective job package; Attend pre-bid meetings to obtain project requirements and objectives; Participate in the review and evaluation of projects
  • Must have some knowledge and experience in all construction trades other than civil
  • Contact suppliers and vendors for material and subcontract pricing; solicit subcontractors during the bidding process.
  • Review project plans and drawings to ensure all items are accounted for, and the plan is in place for execution of the project.
  • Perform regular jobsite inspections to develop and maintain project familiarity and knowledge; provide technical information, change order pricing, and other forms of support as needed to Foremen throughout the project; perform civil quantity take-offs and pricing of estimates.
  • Ensure all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed before, during, and after the process to foster a positive safety culture by having a safety-first mindset and approach during execution of activities
  • Based on the nature of the essential functions associated with this role, GreenWood has designated this as a “safety-sensitive” position.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Six years of experience in construction and estimating (Commercial / Industrial)
  • Two years of supervisory experience required
  • Ability to understand contracting procedures and tactics related to such areas as project correspondence, documentation, timely notice of claims, subcontract negotiation and administration, codes and standards.
  • Ability to develop conceptual budgets
  • Good organizational as well as verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids and GMP processes
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook required
  • Experience demonstrating successful support of a positive safety culture
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation(s)
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required or ability to obtain
