Orion Marine Group is seeking an experienced field supervisor to oversee civil construction activities on allocated projects. You will lead field crews, coordinate with subcontractors and project teams, ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with contract specs, and manage resources to keep projects on schedule.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to read plans, interpret specifications, and enforce processes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of civil construction experience with 5+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specs; strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Understanding of project scheduling, resource allocation, and safety practices.
  • Basic computer skills and construction-management software.

Job description

The primary purpose of this position is to complete the execution of all civil construction activities on assigned projects, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, on time, and in accordance with contract specifications and company policies. This role requires strong leadership, field oversight, coordination with subcontractors and project teams, and the ability to manage resources and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all construction work is performed in compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards
  • Coordinate daily activities of field crews, subcontractors, and vendors to meet project schedules
  • Monitor and report on project progress, productivity, and compliance with specifications
  • Read and interpret civil construction drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Verify that materials and work performed comply with the contract documents
  • Track and manage equipment, manpower, and material needs
  • Assist in developing look-ahead schedules and daily work plans
  • Provide leadership and clear direction to field personnel
  • Collaborate with project engineers, foremen, quality control, and safety personnel
  • Identify and resolve field conflicts or constructability issues with minimal disruption
  • Maintain accurate site records, including daily reports, timesheets, and logs
  • Enforce company policies and procedures, including safety requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 10+ years of civil construction experience with at least 5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role is required. A degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred. The incumbent must also demonstrate:
  • Thorough knowledge of civil construction methods, materials, and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documents
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Understanding of project scheduling and resource allocation Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and site safety best practices
  • Basic computer skills (email, Excel, and construction management software)
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and solve problems independently
This position requires excellent organizational skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to make sound decisions in the field under pressure. Must be flexible to work extended hours, weekends, and travel to job sites as needed.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit the jobsite. This may include a hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices, or other equipment required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods in a field environment and tolerate exposure to outdoor weather, dust, uneven terrain, and construction noise.

The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstances of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency arise.
