Job summary

City of Hoover is seeking a qualified engineering technician/inspector to perform field inspections of civil construction projects and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The role requires a mix of on-site oversight, documentation, and coordination with the City Engineer and Public Works.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED with 5+ years of civil construction experience or an associate degree with 3+ years of related work.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and 5+ years of civil construction experience as an engineering technician, superintendent, foreman, or related field.
• Associate degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Civil Construction and 3+ years of civil construction experience as an engineering technician, superintendent, foreman, or related field.
• Certification: ADEM QCI or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain Hoover Driver's Permit.

Responsibilities

• Observe soil fill placement and elevations; inspect gravity flow and force main sanitary sewer systems.
• Inspect storm water sewer systems and concrete forms before placement of concrete.
• Observe erosion control devices and their maintenance; monitor drainage installations.
• Ensure public utilities are installed in proper right-of-way locations; monitor air, vacuum tests, and sewer videos.
• Perform final inspections and release performance bonds; document investigation findings.
• Maintain records of inspections and regulatory actions; prepare reports and notices to correct code violations.
