Job summary

Soltage LLC in Jersey City (NJ) is seeking a Civil/Structural Project Engineer to own civil, structural, and site civil engineering for standalone battery energy storage and solar-plus-storage projects. You will design reviews through construction and commissioning, reporting to the SVP of Engineering.

Requirements include 3–5 years in urban civil construction related to electrical generation, NA codes knowledge, and experience coordinating with EPCs and regulators.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of project or field engineering experience on urban civil construction projects supporting electrical generation or utility equipment.
• Strong knowledge of civil and structural engineering for utility-scale BESS, solar PV, substations, and high-voltage infrastructure, including applicable North American codes and standards.
• Working knowledge of structural steel, reinforced concrete, foundations, seismic and wind loading, duct banks, and trenching.
• Experience coordinating with EPC contractors, equipment manufacturers, utilities, Owner's Engineers, and regulatory agencies.
• Familiarity with construction QA/QC documentation (RFIs, submittals, ITPs, NCRs, punch lists, as-builts).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Support civil and structural design for utility-scale BESS, solar PV, substation, and BOP infrastructure across North America.
• Lead technical review of civil and structural deliverables, including grading, drainage, foundations, and equipment support structures.
• Conduct site visits for field investigations, geotechnical observations and inspections.
• Develop and review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and submittals.
• Serve as the primary technical contact for civil/structural matters and oversee external consultants.
• Review vendor foundation and wall designs, equipment loads, and seismic criteria for BESS equipment.
• Support RFPs, EPC bid evaluations, engineering estimates, and value engineering.
• Resolve RFIs, NCRs, field design changes, and construction issues with contractors to minimize schedule/cost impacts.
• Verify completion of civil/structural work during commissioning and turnover.
