Job summary

S-E-A is a forensic engineering firm with over 50 years of experience, serving as a neutral expert to analyze why failures occur. We seek a civil/structural engineer with post‑graduate experience to lead field investigations, assess failures, and prepare professional reports for clients and legal proceedings.

Responsibilities include site visits, cause analysis, and presenting conclusions with supporting testimony as needed. Missouri P.E. or eligibility is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master's is a plus.
  • Minimum seven years of post-academic civil/structural experience.
  • P.E. registration Missouri or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations and analyze failures of structures and construction problems.
  • Determine causes of failure, origin, and extent of structural issues including envelope, roof, walls and glazing.
  • Perform foundation settlement investigations, site evaluations, sub-surface investigations and vibration analysis.
  • Analyze failures in buildings and infrastructure using codes and industry standards.
  • Maintain client relationships and present findings in reports and testimony when needed.

S-E-A is a forensic engineering firm with over 50 years of experience serving as a neutral, third part subject expert, analyzing technical failures. Our engineers reverse engineer and look for the \"why\" when things fail. Prior forensic industry experience strongly preferred but not required.



Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities


  • Conduct field investigations and analyze failures involving all types of structures and construction problems including residential, commercial and industrial properties

  • Determine of the cause, origin, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, construction defects and building system failures including envelope, roof, wall and glazing

  • Assignments may include foundation settlement investigations, structural assessments, site evaluations, sub-surface investigations, vibration analysis, construction site accidents and building egress accident evaluations

  • Analyze failures in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards

  • Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients

  • Responsible for retention and development of client relations

  • Prepare oral and written reports in layman's terms that document causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation

  • Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups

  • Ability to support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings

  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies



Position Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required, Master's degree a plus

  • A minimum of seven years of post-academic civil/structural experience

  • P.E. (Professional Engineer) registration required through testing in Missouri, or ability to obtain Missouri P.E. within 6 months

  • Must possess strong writing skills

  • Public speaking experience a plus

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to climb ladders and inspect roofs

  • Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites

  • Ability to work at various heights on structures

  • Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and in confined spaces

  • Ability to drive in all conditions

  • Ability to fly on airplanes

  • Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site

  • Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications
