Job summary

Job Juncture seeks a motivated Project/Civil Engineer to join our Underground Utility Construction division in the Washington, DC area. You will assist planning, scheduling, and execution of water, sewer, gas, and dry utility projects from pre-construction through closeout, while coordinating with project managers and field crews to ensure safety, schedule adherence, and budget compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in civil/underground utility construction.
• Knowledge of underground utility systems and construction drawings.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or Civil 3D is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist planning, scheduling, and execution of underground utility projects.
• Review plans and contract documents for compliance with engineering standards and client requirements.
• Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation.
• Coordinate with surveyors, subcontractors, and utility locators to support field layout and installation.
• Support quantity takeoffs, material procurement, and cost tracking to help budgets.
• Monitor field progress and maintain accurate project logs, daily reports, and as-built documentation.
• Assist with scheduling updates and progress reporting using project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
• Collaborate with project managers to resolve field conflicts and design discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company HSE policies on all sites.
• Support quality control through inspections and testing coordination.
• Assist with permit tracking and regulatory compliance.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project/Civil Engineer to join our Underground Utility Construction division. This role supports the planning, coordination, and execution of underground utility projects — including water, sewer, storm drain, gas, and dry utility installations — from pre-construction through project closeout. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work closely with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the planning, scheduling, and execution of underground utility construction projects, including trenching, etc...
• Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance with engineering standards and client requirements.
• Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation.
• Coordinate with surveyors, subcontractors, and utility locators to support accurate field layout and installation.
• Support quantity takeoffs, material procurement, and cost tracking to help maintain project budgets.
• Monitor daily field progress and maintain accurate project logs, daily reports, and as-built documentation.
• Assist with scheduling updates and progress reporting using project management software ("e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar.").

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 2+ years of experience in civil/underground utility construction, engineering, or project support role.
• Working knowledge of underground utility systems (water, sanitary/storm sewer, gas, or dry utilities) preferred.
• Familiarity with construction drawings, grading plans, and utility plan sets.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design/review software is a plus.
• Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencing for underground work.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with project management software a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, specifications, and contracts.
