HDR NY/NJ Transportation Business Group is seeking to hire a Civil/Highway Project Engineer to work on Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build Projects.

The primary duties include leading teams to produce design criteria, plans, calculations, cost estimates, and specifications for highway and/or civil projects. The candidate should be a team player ready to work collaboratively within the NY/NJ Civil/Highway Section. Familiarity with local and national codes, standards, and specifications is expected.

In this role, you'll:

1. Lead the technical delivery of projects from concept to final design.
2. Work independently or as part of a team.
3. Participate in design development meetings to ensure consistency, thoroughness, and quality.
4. Oversee, mentor, and review junior staff work.
5. Coordinate workload and ensure project documents are completed on schedule and within budget.
6. Perform project engineering duties, including financial responsibilities, progress reports, and schedule updates.

Preferred Qualifications

• MS or BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of design experience in roadway design, including geometry, utilities, drainage, grading, and traffic management.
• NY or NJ PE license is preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation, Inroads, and Microsoft Office.
• Experience with clients such as PANYNJ, NYSDOT, NYSTA, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, NJDOT, NYC Parks, or NJTA.
• Strong technical skills and ability to mentor staff.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Demonstrated leadership and client communication skills.
• Active participation in professional engineering communities.
• Knowledge of project scheduling software.
• Preference for local candidates.

Required Qualifications

• PE license.
• Hands-on experience with CAD software like Bentley and Autodesk products.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Experience with highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, and transportation planning.
