Primary Responsibilities

1. HDR NY/NJ Transportation Business Group has an immediate opening for a Senior Civil/Highway Engineer to work on Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build Projects.
2. The primary duties include producing design criteria, plans, calculations, estimates, and specifications for highway and civil projects.
3. The Senior Civil/Highway Engineer will lead or be part of a team completing analysis, design, and calculations, and should be a team player ready to lead and grow the NY/NJ Civil/Highway Section.
4. The role requires familiarity with local and national codes, standards, and project management experience.

In this role, you'll:

• Lead design and manage projects including roadway, hydraulic, sewer, site grading, stormwater management, utilities, and permitting.
• Coordinate with all disciplines involved in projects.
• Interact with clients to deliver according to scope, schedule, and budget.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and utilities.
• Perform quality checks and reviews.
• Work independently or as part of a team.
• Mentor junior staff and represent HDR at industry seminars.
• Support project tracking and business development activities.

Qualifications

Preferred:

• PE License in NY and/or NJ
• 15+ years of civil/highway design experience
• Experience with Microstation, InRoads, Openroads, AutoCAD Civil 3D
• Experience with NYSDOT, NYSTA, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, PANYNJ
• Leading design teams

Required:

• Minimum 10 years of roadway engineering design experience
• PE or P.Eng license
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Experience with urban/rural highway design, traffic management, and planning
• Ability to coordinate survey, grading, drainage, utilities, and layout
