Primary Responsibilities

HDR NY/NJ Transportation Business Group is seeking to hire a Civil/Highway EIT/Designer to work on Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build Projects.

The primary duties of the Civil/Highway EIT will include working as part of a team to produce design criteria, design plans, calculations, cost estimates, and specifications for highway and civil projects. The candidate should be a team player ready to work in a collaborative environment within the NY/NJ Civil/Highway Section. The Civil/Highway EIT shall be familiar with local and national codes, standards, and specifications.

In this role, you'll:

  • Work with project engineers on detailed design of local roadway/highway, hydraulic/hydrologic analysis, storm/sanitary sewer design, site grading, stormwater pollution prevention plans, utility design, permitting, and coordination with regulatory agencies.
  • Take responsibility for alignment, profile, geometrics, drainage, and development of plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Assist in creating and submitting technical reports, specifications, and calculations.
  • Coordinate design packages, track quality reviews, and ensure project schedules are met in design-build projects.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MS/BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Preferred candidates will have EIT and be on track for NY or NJ PE. Candidates without EIT will be titled “Civil/Highway Designer”.
  • Experience with NYSDOT, NYSTA, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, NJDOT, and NJTA projects is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Commitment to our employee-owned culture.
  • Residents of the metro NY/NJ/CT area are preferred.
  • Positions available in NY, Newark, NJ, or White Plains, NY.
Required Qualifications
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, and experience with highways and roads engineering software like Bentley Open Roads Designer, Civil3D, or Autodesk Infraworks.
  • Active participation in our employee-owned culture is essential.
